Salt Painting
Our children have had such a strong interest in art and science. We decided to offer them another experience where they could combine those two subjects. The Morahs put out liquid watercolors, paintbrushes, watercolor paper, and salt.
First the children painted their paper using vibrant water colors.
Next the children sprinkled salt on top. They had two kinds to choose from, Epsom and table salt.
We noticed the effects that the salt made when it absorbed the liquid on the paper.
Table salt leaves behind a kind of speckled effect and Epsom salt leaves firework shaped crystals.
Salt Painting with Glue
Next we explored a three part process of salt painting that includes glue!
First the children drizzled glue all over their paper.
After drying the papers over night, the children painted over the glue designs using liquid watercolors.
Finally the children sprinkled salt over their creations.
The glue ended up blocking areas on the paper from absorbing paint.
The final images feature vibrant abstractions.
The glue and salt add another dimension and new textures to these dreamy compositions.
Costume Play
The children made crowns, capes, and swords out of construction paper and pipe cleaners.
Lights, camera, action! We start the show.
The children are experts at miming movements while not actually touching each other - that's how we stay safe!
Performing in front of an audience of friends is a great introduction to public speaking!
Some people gravitate towards the spotlight, while others thrive behind the scenes as a director or a good audience member.
