Fabric and Feathers by: Kitah Bet

The children in Kitah Bet have been working with fabric this year. They have also been exploring a variety of painting styles and techniques. The class has also been reading the
Goose series by Laura Wall. We wanted to combine all of these varied interests into one piece of art.

The children began this process by squirting different shades of blue liquid watercolor onto linen with pipettes. Using pincer grip strengthens the children’s fine motor skills. Once the fabric is dry, it is cut into a pennant-like shape.

Next the children paint sheets of muslin in complementary shades of  blue, purple, and green.

Once dry, they add metallic accents to the muslin using paint brushes and acrylic paint.

The muslin sheets are then cut and stitched onto the linen banner. A variety of fringe, beaded trim, and goose feathers are added.

Finally, The banner was attached to a branch and a braided, golden cord was tied on either side of it. You can bid on this piece of art at the Fun Run!
