Sensory Bottle Fun

During the preschool years children use their senses to explore the world around them. In Kitah Alef and Bet we  created "sensory bottles". In some of the bottles we used vegetable oil and in the others corn syrup. We call the bottles that were created with the vegetable oil the "fast bottles" and the ones with corn syrup, the "slow bottles". Each day the bottles began on the window sil but throughout the day they are explored and moved to many all the areas and centers in the classroom.

Ruth, picked the sensory bottle and her bear and began shaking it. Her eyes lit in amazement as the objects in the bottle moved around.

Pearl, collected three of the bottles, and looked at each of them separately. She looked and smiled as she picked up each bottle one by one to explore the contents of each.

Florie, stood in front of the window and first picked up the red bottle to shake it, and then the green bottle. Which one moves slow and which fast?

Lewis, turned the chair around at the table so that we could get a better view of the sensory bottles. He pick them up, and turned them upside down to watch the items move slowly around the bottles.

Morah Mushky, demonstrated to Henia how this sensory bottle worked. They both enjoyed playing with the bottle.

Hannah, stared intensely at the bottles. After she looked at the red bottle to placed it on the table to get a better look at the green bottle.

During lunchitme, while the Morah was reading, Tirza asked if she could sit with the bottles and look at them while she ate lunch. The Morahs were happy to oblige. Even after lunch was finished, she continued to play with the bottles.
