On Purim, it is customary when hearing the reading of the megillah, to shake a grogger and make lots of noise. This tradition inspired our recent study of sound, instruments, and noise.
Last week, we made castanets by gluing two shells to either side of a cardboard strip. Though possibly the simplest of instruments to construct, they provided lots of entertainment as the children clacked and danced with their creations.
We also made kazoos from simple materials like toilet paper rolls, rubber bands, and wax paper. Stickers and colored tape made great decorations!
