The beautiful IJP yard is a
wonderful place to play. The same “intentionality” that teachers bring to
explorations in the classroom extends to the outdoors. At teacher meetings before the winter break
we discussed how to make the play yard an even better place for the children to
grow socially and emotionally, and strengthen their large and small motor
skills.
After the break, the children were excited to have the balls
replenished. Ring Toss is a new game we played. Weaving outdoors was enjoyed
too. Special crayons for writing and drawing on the Lucite panels were
introduced. Morah Goldie’s class put out “bottle babies” that are fantastic
“heavy” objects for the children to carry and serve as triggers for creative,
dramatic play type activities.
KDH cleans up the yard, putting away the riding toys, sand
toys and balls before we go in, each day. We are very proud of them!
