What do The Butterflies and Dragonflies talk about all day long? How are they interacting with each other and in what ways? What from their home life and experiences are they expounding upon through social interactions, dramatic play, building, story telling and art? Quite a bit! You have to go peaking for it. Do you know what peaking means?
It means you have to go to the hole (in the fence)
and squint your eyes under the crack.

Kitah Bet's Fun in the Sun

We've been taking advantage of the warm weather change by spending as much time outdoors as we can.

 Whether it be carefree swinging,

 building with outdoor blocks,

 shopping,

 

or just hanging with friends, Kitah Bet is constantly busy with new outside ideas. 

 

Outside we can have unique experiences like painting - with water! It gives the children the ability to see the effects of their strokes on just about any surface outside - with no cleanup ;)

Friendship Mural

We love to emphasize togetherness, equality, friendship, and community with our children.  In light of Martin Luther King Day we made a friendship mural!  We started by taping together individual sheets of paper.  Each child chose one piece to begin with. While they created the masterpiece we talked about how we would make all of these rectangles into one big picture that everyone helped make.

We couldn't stop with just our dots of color, so we added some fun 3D effects.

It's even more fun and collaborative when the children get to pick what goes on next.

Here we are sharing the materials we chose. 

After we display our mural for the whole school to see, each child will get to take a piece home as a  memorabilia of togetherness and friendship. 

Chalk Art Outside with Kitah Alef

 Kitah Alef ventured outside with a basket of white chalk. Yisroel passed out chalk to all of his friends while talking excitedly. Shayan added to the drawings already on the fence from a previous class.

 Avraham Chaim looked up and saw the many figures and shapes on the fence.

 Yisroel makes sure Zoey has plenty of chalk to draw with.

 Zoey: "I'm drawing a house!" Rafi also starts to draw on the fence.

 Rafi and Avraham Chaim work together to create a work of art.

 Zoey: "Circle!"Rafi points to a figure and says: "Face!"

 Yisroel collects the chalk lying on the deck and puts it back into the basket.

 Morah Myriam draws all kinds of shapes onto the deck. Morah Myriam: "It's a circle!"

 Yisroel: "Draw a circle! Draw a circle!" Morah Myriam draws circles with smaller circles inside. Yisroel: "It's funny!"

Cups and lids, simple as that!

We brought in cups and lids one day and put them out on our table. 

That’s it.  The yeladim were drawn to it as soon as they came into the classroom …it opened up some incredible discoveries…

It was a social time for a group of 3 to gather and have conversation and ‘coffee’ together (friendship and conversational skills building) …

It became a discovery time on seeing what fits in the cups (spacing and problem solving skills) …

It was an observation of modeling (“This is how my mommy likes it!”)…

It became a stacking time, first with lids then without (fine motor, spacing, and balancing)…

It became a counting and matching activity….

It became an experiment and observation of tilting and stacking, jiggling and leaning (fine motor, problem solving, balancing skills) ….

Learning occurs in the simplest things and in the yeladim's own hands!
