Kitah Bet's Fun in the Sun

We've been taking advantage of the warm weather change by spending as much time outdoors as we can.

 Whether it be carefree swinging,

 building with outdoor blocks,

 shopping,

 

or just hanging with friends, Kitah Bet is constantly busy with new outside ideas. 

 

Outside we can have unique experiences like painting - with water! It gives the children the ability to see the effects of their strokes on just about any surface outside - with no cleanup ;)

KDH and Ponce City Market

Each day is an adventure in KDH but some days are more .....

On Tuesday morning during center time the children took the straw manipulatives and connectors and erected a large building. We asked them, "What is this?" Jules replied, "It's the Ponce City Market."

It was a beautiful day outside. We asked the children, "Would you like to walk on the Beltline to the Ponce City Market?" We got a resounding response, "Yes!"

We lined up with partners and were on our way. We sang as we walked and enjoyed the gorgeous day.The children expressed a special interest in finding all the bridges on the walk. The first one that we walked under was renamed by KDH, "The Echo Bridge."

We noticed the bridge over Ponce de Leon. The one bridge that was a disappointment was the bridge to the Ponce City Market. It was closed for repairs. So after the long walk, we sat on what Amitai called, "the squiggly bench," to rest up before our walk back.

We only have these two pictures from the outing and wanted to create something about our outing. On Wednesday morning, the children drew the the bridges, flowers, trees, friends, the Ponce City Market with its many windows and flag on top and more....Next, we sat down and the children dictated to us what to write in the book.

Ms. Donna scanned the pictures and turned it into a book for us!

What excitement! 

The only way we could make it even better is by going inside the Ponce City Market.

KDH Painting Outdoors

KDH tried to spend as much time as possible outdoors this week, enjoying the gorgeous weather. Painting outdoors seemed like the natural way to expression our good feelings. 

The children used their knowledge of primary and secondary colors to make purple, orange and brown and add to the colors in their paintings.

The beautiful, bright paintings. now on our bulletin board, are lifting our spirits in our classroom.

Playing In The Mud

Spring showers came and Kitah Gimmel went outside to discover the mud surrounding our class's fig tree. 

Morah - "What do you know about mud? How do you know if it is mud?"

Perly - "cuz mud is black, black is black"

Kemp - "it has snakes in it"

Ziva - "cuz it has yucky worms"

Mia - "cuz it's black and in the black is mud"

Mina - "woods chips are in the mud"

Eli - "I know  it's dirt. Cuz it's black and mud is also black. Dirt, when it rains it turns to mud"

Morah - "What do you like to do with mud?"

Amitai - "I like to play with it and dig for worms."

Mia - "When the butterflies fly it can't touch mud and I like to play with the shovel in the mud like sand"

Ziva - "I like to throw mud at the floor."

Eli - "I see gooyie puff mud at one of our parks. Once I rolled Becker's walker through the mud."

Adaya - "I like to pour water on it so flowers grow."

Kemp - "I like to play with a lot of snakes"

Bryna - "I play with the mud when the flowers are growing"

Mina - "I put mud on wood chips"

Perly - "I never played with mud"  

Drawing Outdoors

Tomorrow is Tu B'shvat, the New Year for Trees. KDH has been exploring trees all week. We read Be a Friend to Trees, which describes all the wonderful things we get from trees. We have created trees for our city from clay, pipe cleaners, twigs, and more. Today we took soft pastels outside and the children observed the trees and drew them.

Mr. Seigelman came to our school to cut down a dead branch on one of our huge Pecan trees. Kitah gimmel who are curious about all things Tree related, came outside to watch how he does it. When Mr. Seigelman was finished with all of his hard work, there was a big log left on the ground. Morah Estee had an idea to ask him to bring it into our classroom. All the Yeladim followed Mr. Seigelman with excitement to our classroom with the big log. After he put it down, we wondered what we could do with this long branch, or what could we use it for?  In unison the yeladim proclaimed it can be a bench for us to sit on. We all said a big "thank you" to Mr. Siegelman as he was on his way.  

The yeladim are very excited about our new bench and of course wanted an immediate chance to sit on it. Make sure not to roll it!  There wasn't enough room for everyone to sit at one time so the yeladim made sure everyone got a chance. Others even sat on the floor happily waiting for their turn.
Our new bench is right next to our Mitvah Tree which  is a  reminder to always do good deeds and make sure to  share and care for our fellow friends and classmates. There is always a chance to do a kindness in Kitah Gimmel and the children take almost every opportunity that comes their way.
