KG Parsha Circle Time

As a part of our integrated Judaic/Social Emotional curriculum we learn Torah Stories each week, otherwise called the Parsha (Torah Portion).  Each week Morah Estee tells the relevant and age appropriate message of the story using puppets, songs, mini people and a variety of props.  This weeks Parsha is Vayetizei and it tells the story of Yaakov having to leave his home to run away from his brother Eisav, who was not happy with him.  We know from last week that these boys were twins but opposites.  We have been very conscious of opposites all around us.  We have now discussed how to treat our siblings and family members.  Using kind words, sharing and working things out when we have a disagreement.

On the way to his uncle's home, Yaakov went to sleep but before he rested his head he took twelve rocks and put them around his head to protect himself. When Yaakov fell asleep he had a dream of a ladder with angels going up and down.  Morah demonstrated the story for us with all her fun props even the map of Israel. It was so interesting to be able to see the story come to life in our own classroom. We then had a chance to count out twelve rocks just like Yaakov did. Through this we practiced our numbers, sharing and passing out different colored and shaped rocks with our friends.
