KDH Self Portraits - Big Event Art

KDH January self portraits were printed.

 The children used a pointy object to outline their self portrait onto a foam tray. 

When that was done, they chose an ink color and using a brayer roller, spread the ink onto the foam tray.

The next step was pressing the painted foam tray onto a piece of card stock paper.

Finally,  they lifted the foam tray up and admired their beautiful print.

Lights, Camera, Action!

This week in Kitah Daled Hey, we have been practicing and creating our very own play. Our skit is about a 15 minute long compilation of different songs from Annie, original versions of our favorite Star War's scenes, and even a joke show during intermission.
In just one week, our kids have been practicing hard, memorizing lines, and putting their all into their chosen parts. Each child is involved as much he or she wishes to be and was able to choose whichever role spoke to them.

While all that one student wanted to be was Assistant Director, helping ensure that the performance will run smoothly, another child got to fulfill her dream to play Annie, and another suggested the idea to add in a joke show.
It's been a wonder to see normally quiet and shy campers fully express themselves through the creativity in performing and helping to compose our very own original KDH production. The girls are passionately singing, dancing, and acting in our two chosen songs from Annie, "Hard Knock Life" and "Tomorrow". Every student has at least one joke of their choosing to share during our Joke Show intermission. And, the boys and a few girls star in Act II version of Star Wars.

The sense of importance and self-confidence shine brightly in the eyes of our young prodigies, as they wear their special costumes, contribute to the creation of the script, and diligently practice their lines.

KDH Prepares for the Pesach Seder

Preparations for Pesach started soon after we returned from Winter Break. Planting our parsley had to happen right away for it to grow in time.

Next step was discussing the hagaddah and having our pictures taken.

 

With the hagaddah completed and Purim behind us we were ready to fully delve into everything Pesach. The children started by taking down all the Purim decorations and costumes and creating their new Pesach pictures. Around the room hung pictures of a hagaddah, 4 cups of wine, Matzot and Pesach Seder plates. The dramatic area was set with a Pesach table. Songs could be heard while the children played and worked.

Next step, baking matzah. We learned the difference between Matzah and Challah. Why is one crunchy and flat and the other soft and fluffy. The class worked fast to make the matzah insuring it would not be chometz.

Wednesday morning the children came in and went to work. Dessert is important. Passover brownies made with potato starch were the first thing we made. The children peeled and grated apples for charoset. Horseradish was also peeled and grated for maror. They removed shells from the hard boiled eggs. Lettuce was washed and checked. The table was set.

 

With all this done, we were ready to start. We did Bedikat Chametz, looking for Chametz around the room, took an Erev Yom Tov nap and then went through the entire Hagaddah!!
