Ahoy, Mates!

Ahoy, Mates!
It's winter now and we may be bundled up, but we still enjoy playing outside on our playground.  The Big Boat continues to be one of our favorite places to visit.  Yoni is steering the boat.
Our interest in boats began in the summer.  We would "take trips" on the small boat. Rami and Leiba are ready go . . .
We would call our friends together.  Henia and Pearl are involved in the drama of Kitah Gimmel's "travels."

Sometimes, we do Tefillah on our Big Boat.  Mortimer and Noa look at the picture of the rooster; they know the rooster crows in the morning.  It's time to say Modeh Ani, thank you to HaShem.  We ate snack on the boat, too.
(Photo above)  We sketch a sailboat.  This one is made from animal horn. We count the sails.
Sam sequences the sizes of Christopher Columbus' boats:  small, medium, large.  Shlomit watches carefully.

(Below)  Reed and Sam experience Noah's Ark--another boat!
(Below)  During Snack, our Morah read us a fun book about a silly pirate and his boat.  On each page, we would participate by placing the graphic icons in little paper pockets on the page. Each time we did this, it changed the story!
We graphed our choices of favorite boats.
(Below) Hannah, Levi and Ari E place their choices on the graph.  Then we created ABAB patterns with our choices.

(Below)  We conducted two experiments in our water table, one with a motor boat and one with a sailboat.  The motor boat was powered with a rubber-band, the sailboat with a blown-up balloon.  Shaya, Ari S. and friends pay careful attention and discuss what's happening.

Morah Susan shared a picture book with us, Salty Dog.  It was about boat-building.  She had seen a display of hand-made boats, and she watched some workers building a boat in a Florida shipyard over the winter break.

Our Morah and her husband also climbed the steps of a Florida lighthouse over the break.  There were 219 steps!  She described how the light keeps boaters safe.

Of course, we continue to have fun on our Big Boat.  Here's Izzy, hanging out with friends on the boat and enjoying the day.  What could be better?
