In the KDH the blocks are enjoyed by all. We begin the school year simply only with blocks in the center. As the year progresses we add other things. First, little people. Next, cars were put out which created a lot of energy. Most recently we put in all kinds of signs to promote literacy. The children noticed the STOP sign and can read the letters. They asked, "What's the one with the wheel chair? How about this?" That was a Do Not Enter sign."
Today we taped three long sheets of easel paper to the floor. The children worked together to create their "cities." They described them. Theo showed us his bumpy road. When the paper ripped, Sholom said, "That's the crack in the street." Alex made his house, swimming pool and the driveway. Nadav and Menny felt a police station was important. Motty designed a parking lot for all of our cars. Mia drew a map for us to find our way. Luba drew her house and had a car bring Morah Chana Liba to visit her. Finally bridges and tunnels were added with recyclables. We saved the papers and can't wait to see where else we will go.....
