The Fruits of our Labor

Is there a more exciting way to spend a gorgeous Fall day outdoors than doing what KDH did in our own backyard last Thursday?
Armed with small shovels and rakes the children turned over the soil in the raised garden beds. Our mission was twofold. We hoped to harvest potatoes that we planted in the Spring and prepare the beds for fall planting. The children dug and dug and found both red and white potatoes in all sizes!

On Friday morning, Benjamin washed the potatoes, Menny peeled them and Kira rinsed them, and then we roasted them in the oven. We enjoyed them at Shabbat Party, yummy!
We had been discussing Parshat Breishit – the days of creation, each day snacking on a food relating to that day. On Friday, we were up to Day Three, when grass, trees, fruits and vegetables were created. What a yummy way to integrate our learning and enjoy the fruits (okay, veggies) of our labor.

Stay tuned as we document the progress of the carrots, radishes, collards, cauliflower, strawberries and pansies that KDH planted.
