The children in Kitah Gimmel have had a strong interest in nature this year.
They are always collecting sticks, flowers, and the like.
For this project, the children first collected a variety of natural materials.
Next they arranged those materials into an imaginary creature onto a rectangular piece of cardboard.
Leaves and flowers became a body, sticks became arms and legs, acorns and other small seeds became a nose or a mouth.
The children also used bark and shells for other features.
They used Modge Podge and a paintbrush to adhere the parts of their monsters together.
As a final and ridiculous touch, they glued googly eyes onto their creations.
Once all of the creatures were assembled and dry, they were adhered to a large sheet of plywood.
Strips of cardboard recycled from our large box of chalk became title cards for the art piece.
A couple of the Kitah Gimmel children even wrote the title!
Look out for a poster of this piece up for bid at the Fun Run!
