One of the threads of interest with Kitah Aleph this year has been sensory exploration. This has led to creating a variety of sensory panels. Through these panels, children have been able to experience natural materials, paint, glue, velcro, clay, as well as many different colors and textures. They have especially enjoyed mark-making using paint and paint brushes!
To make this particular piece, children roll clay into balls of different sizes. Pinching bits of clay and rolling it strengthens their fine motor skills.
After the clay dries, the children paint the balls in shades of blue.
Once dry, the children coat the clay in Modge Podge to seal and protect the paint.
As a final touch, they top the creations with glitter.
The balls are then arranged into a white shadowbox in a circular formation.
The end effect is a sculptural, bubble-like cluster in alternating shades of sparkling blue. This piece will be up for bid at the Fun Run!
