Social-Emotional Development is a BIG focus in our class. We strengthen our community by building empathy and utilizing kindness. We keep each other safe, we practice self-regulation, we do I Love You Rituals, and we take care of our friends when they are sad or hurt.
Safe Keeper Dolls
Every morning we check in using our Safe-Keeper dolls. We all make the commitment to "Keep it Safe" at school. We also notice any children who are absent and "Wish them Well."
Safe Keeper
Safe Keeper is a job in our class. This child reminds us of safety rules on the playground. They also help keep us safe the rest of the day.
Social Emotional Circle Time
Every week Morah Lindsey does a Social-Emotional circle time. We sing our School Family Song to build community and friendship.
"We are a school family, family, family. We are a school family.......
...fist bump with a friend.
...high five with a friend.
...big smile with a friend."
"Here's a bunny with ears so fluffy.
Here is a hole in the ground. When a noise she hears, she perks up her ears and jumps in the hole in the ground."
Puppet Shows
Morah Lindsey often performs puppet shows featuring situations that happen in our class. We discuss how best to handle these situations as a group. The children love coming up with names for whichever puppets are being used.
Self-Regulation in KGD
There are so many ways to self-regulate in Kitah Gimmel Daled
Yoga
Safe SpaceIf a child needs some alone time they can come to the Safe Space to snuggle a stuffed animal, smell some essential oils, put on some lotion,
