Upcycled Art in Extended Day

The children continue to be interested in recycled materials. This week during Extended Day, the children made collages.

They gathered a variety of fabric scraps, corrugated cardboard, paper towel tubes, paper straws, foam sheets, and even old records as their medium. They cut, ripped, and snapped the materials to the desired shape and size.

We found some plywood boards in storage to use as canvases. The children arranged their newly transformed materials and adhered them to the wood using paintbrushes and Tacky glue.

As we continue this project, the children will paint the collages and arrange them into one large piece. Stay tuned for the end result!

Upcycled Update!

The next day the children painted over the textured materials.

They blended colors on the long strip, “Rainbow” piece.

On the four panel piece, the children painted in more of a color-blocked style.

After they painted, they children sprinkled various colors of glitter.

The end results are fun, bright, sparkling, textured collages!
