KDH - Magen David

In celebration of Yom Haatzmaut, we explored how a Magen David is made. Ezra told us, "Make two triangles and put them together." How many sides does a triangle have? Shaya answered immediately, Three!"
Could we make them with loose parts from nature? Sure! Use the twigs that are in our art center. How will we tie them together? With rubber bands.

Yanai began to explore with the twigs and Levi was interested in what he saw and joined in. Evan, Pearl, Henia, Anslee, Annika, and Sammy came over to make them too. Uh Oh! We don't have enough twigs. Anslee came to the rescue, giving us the bag of Wilton lollipop sticks that she had brought in for the l00th day of school. Henia suggested that we could make them prettier by painting the sticks. She took out the cake paints, brush, and a cup of water. To keep her work neat, she put a piece of paper under the sticks. Everyone else who came to the table was inspired to work just as independently.

On the other side of the room, Levi and Yanai took the challenge one step further. They wanted to build a Magen David with blocks. They drew a picture first and then implemented their design. Future architects?

To round off the exploration, we asked the children to find partners and make a Magen David. Maddy and Annika and Pearl and Evan, along with the rest of the class took their fingers, formed a triangle, putting their fingers one on top of the other.

A Magen David! How many can our class of 14 children make together. Seven Magen Davids.
Seeing the children's creativity, Morah Dena brought our class Stick-lets that she had bought for the school A stick-let is a silicone piece that has holes in it. It is used to tie together sticks and build forts, tents or any structure that you can put together.
We took the bamboo that we keep for that kind of building and went outside.

The children found a large branch that Kevin cut it in half for us and we added that to our sticks. Kevin found a stick from a mop and asked us if we wanted that too!

The children built teepees and tents. Shaya  mentioned that we needed material! Next time......

Continuing with Magen Davids, Ezra and Yinon decided to use loose parts to make them.

Today we began decorating our bags for our trip to Eretz Yisroel, on Lag BaOmer. Using the children's expertise in line drawing, they used credit cards and white paint to draw a

MAGEN DAVID!!
