Ezra noticed that the sense of touch is very important. He created a game for the class. Ezra had lots of small objects that he put into paper bags. Each child got a turn to put his hand into the bag and try to guess, just by touching without seeing, what was in the bag! The most difficult one, was figuring out what the die were! Thanks Ezra and Mom.
For Parshat Vayishlach, Natalie brought her mom in to assist her. In Parshat Vayishlach, Yaakov comes back to Eretz Yisroel and prepares to meet Eisav. Yaakov is frightened because he hears that Eisav is still angry that Yaakov got the blessings. They meet and work out their feelings. Natalie and her mom discussed what forgiveness is and how much better the person who forgives feels.
The children drew pictures of situations in which they forgave someone. Robin mentioned to us how much she enjoyed preparing Parsha together with Natalie and how the one on one time with Natalie was such a special experience.
Yinon and his mom were next and taught us the entire Parshat Vayeishev.
Yaakov loved Yosef and made him a Kisonet Pasim, a coat of many colors. Yosef had two dreams. In the first one - bundles of grain were bowing down to him and in the second - the sun, moon and stars were bowing. Yosef's brothers, Yaakov's children. the shevatim, were unhappy about this. One day when Yosef went to visit his brothers in the fields where they were shepherds, they sold him. Yosef was taken down to Egypt. There, Yosef became the supervisor in Potifar, the king's minister's house. Potifar's wife becomes angry with Yosef and Yosef is jailed. While in jail, Yosef interprets the dreams of the king's butler and baker. Yinon wanted to make his Parsha week special. He gave out Chanukah stickers to everyone in the class!
For Parshat Miketz Anslee taught us together with her mom.
King Paroh had two dreams and was very perplexed. First he dreamt that he was standing at the Nile River. There were seven, fat, well fed cows. They were eaten by seven skinny cows. The skinny cows remained skinny. In the second dream he saw seven beautiful fat ears of grain. Then seven skinny, shriveled ears of grain came and swallowed the fat grain, but remained skinny.
The butler remembered Yosef from jail and told the king that he could interpret the dreams. Yosef was brought from jail. Hashem helped Yosef understand the dreams. Yosef told Paroh that there would be seven good years of plenty. After that there would be seven years of drought and famine. Yosef advised Paroh to store food during the good years for the years of famine. Yosef is chosen to be a ruler. the second in command to King Paroh. Later on Yosef's brother's come down to buy food, Yosef recognizes them but they do not recognize him.
Anslee and her mom researched the Parsha and gave us a handout summarizing the Parsha and a picture to color. Thank you for working so much on this!
We were on Winter Break for Parshiot Vayigasha and Vayechi. We discussed them when we returned before turning our attention to Sefer Shemot. Stay tuned!
