Tu B'shvat in Kitah Bet

Yesterday was the 15th of Shvat or Tu B'shvat, the birthday of the trees.
In Kitah Bet we have been celebrating this day by talking about the trees and what we get from trees. By planting and watering seeds and by tasting some of the 7 special fruit of Israel.
We tasted figs and dates at snack time.
We de-seeded a pomegranate and tasted it too.
We ate grapes and  made our very own home made grape juice.

We each got a ziploc bag of grapes and tried to squeeze them by hand, turns out its hard work.
What could we use that could help us squeeze the grapes? we looked around the room. We tried citi blocks, we tried a wooden train track and then we found that real wooden blocks are perfect for pressing down very hard on the bags of grapes. The juice comes out of the grape!
We squeezed and squeezed and then went with the morah to the kitchen, we poured all the pieces of grapes and the juice into a small pot , we took a potato masher and all took turns pressing down and squeezing out as much more juice as we could. Morah Leah cooked it for a few minutes and then we strained it through a strainer, let it cool for a few minutes and strained it again through a cheese cloth.
We let it cool and used it at our Shabbat Party for Kiddush. It was yummy!
