KG Adopts the Fig Tree at IJP

Earlier in the year, a few days after Yard Day our class noticed the newly planted Fig tree among the many beautiful planting, painted bridge, and flowers.  Because our children have taken an interest in the "sick" tree out front, that is thankfully getting better, and many things surrounding plant life, such as seeds, mud, sticks and planting,  we have decided to adopt this tree.  We are making sure to water it (although the heavens have been doing a fabulous job at that so far) and document it's growth and well being. Here is a snippet of our discussion which began with analyzing how to measure the tree;

Morah- What should we measure?
Ziva- "The Branches"
Cassidy - It has branches...we should  water it with a water can.
Ziva- There is green stuff on it (buds).
Mina- Maybe there will be pepper on it

Morah- What else will grow on the tree besides the branches?
Kemp-  leaves, but leaves on the ground, because its fall
Amitai- Figs grow on it, Figs makes seeds
Perly- We eat them (figs)

Morah- What do you think figs taste like?
Adaya- Like mint
Cassidy- I would like to taste (figs)
Amitai- I think it will taste like gum
Ziva- Like pepper
Josie- Flavor grape
Laylah- Its going to taste like water melon, the fig tree is gonna grow really high.

Morah- what do we have to do to get the figs on the tree?
Bryna- First we have to give it water, then soil, which is under the leaves.
Cassidy- Figs and leaves will grow.
Kitah Gimmel- Bye Bye Fig Tree!

As you can see our Fig tree looks much like a skinny stick right now, so we are having to use our imaginations to envision what it will be like in the Spring.

Getting down for a closer look at the soil.
