Exploring with their senses is essential to the development of the children in Kitah Alef. To continue with our Fall activities the children explored with pumpkin spice scented and colored rice. This activity allowed the children to use four of their five senses.
The children used their sense of sight to see the mutlicolored rice as well the leaves that were placed inside of the bin. Their sense of smell was used when smelling the lovely pumpkin spice scented rice.Their sense of touch was used as they felt the rice and leaves with their hands. The even used their hearing to listen as the rice trickled and spilled inside of the bin.
The children scooped the rice and poured the rice back into the bin. They used the scoopers with the rice, but really enjoyed feeling the rice between their fingers. Besides for all the sensory fun, this action of scooping and pouring, filling and dumping are fine motor, hand-eye coordination and pre-math skills. Learning is so much fun!
Hannah, Ruth, and Shaya demonstrate how the children not only used the scoopers with the rice. They also reached inside the sensory bin to feel the rice with their hands.
Shaya, scooped the rice with the scooper and poured it back into the bin. He smiled as he repeated this several times.
Hannah and Ruth both enjoyed scooping the rice with the scoppers as well as feeling the rice with their hands.
Henia and Pearl immediately reached into the bin to touch the rice when the Morah placed it on the floor. (The bin is placed on the floor so that the children are able to reach it comfortably). They both noticed that the rice had a special fragrance and smelled it. After smelling the rice both girls continued their exploration inside of the bin.
Leiba and Shaya watch as the Morah demonstrates how to use one of the sccoopers with the rice.
